The Swedish beach volleyball talents Jonatan Hellvig and David Åhman have been praised for their innovative style of play and have taken one meritorious scalp after another during the EC in Munich.

But that they would have any chance against the reigning Olympic champions from Norway, Anders Mol and Christian Sörum, basically no one believed before Sunday's semi-final.

Then the Swedes stepped in and shocked everyone.

They did end up in an early disadvantage in the first set, but at 10-7 they picked up four straight points and then there was never really any talk about it.

Åhman and Hellvig won the set 21–16.

- Sweden crushes the world's best team in the first set, but that does not mean that they will win because I find it difficult to see that Christian Sörum will play this badly during the rest of the match, says SVT's expert Mattias Magnusson.

In the second set, the Swedes continued to impress, taking an early 9-5 lead before the Norwegians came alive and picked up four straight points.

The teams then continued to follow each other for the remainder of the set, but in the end Norway was able to win it 23–21 after they, among other things, saved a Swedish match point.

- The advantage for Norway is that they have been in this position on many, many occasions before.

For Sweden, it is the first senior championship.

They haven't shown any nerves during all the tournaments they won as juniors, but you still have to say that it's Norway's advantage, says Magnusson ahead of the decisive set, which is only played to 15 points.

If Åhman and Hellvig were affected by nervousness during the third set, they showed no signs of it.

The ending developed into a real thriller and when it was most needed they stepped up and delivered.

First Åhman to 14–13 and then Hellvig decided the match by sending in 15–13 after Åhman's serve created chaos in the Norwegian defense.

- What is extra fun is that Norway plays a great match and yet Sweden wins, says Magnusson.

In the final later today, the Czech pair Ondrej Perusic and David Schweiner await, who impressed greatly when they pulverized their opponents in the semi-finals.
