on Sunday on suspicion of having a stroke after feeling unwell after his mother's funeral, according to local media.
The 56-year-old former
Atlético de Madrid
player was transported to
the Barreiro Hospital
, on the south bank of the Tagus, and later transferred to the
Santa Maria hospital
, in Lisbon, reports the sporting Record.
Although no official information about his condition has emerged, the former footballer would be aware, according to Record.
Futre, 41 times capped by
Portugal
, played in the Atlético de Madrid forward in two stages, one between 1987 and 1993 and another in 1997 and after retiring he also served as the club's sporting director.
He also played in the three "greats" of Portuguese football -Sporting, Porto and Benfica-, in Olympique de Marseille, Reggiana, Milan, West Ham and Yokohama Flügels.
