When the European Athletics Championships were organized in Munich in 2002, Sweden had eleven top eight positions and took five medals.

Then Kajsa Bergqvist won one of Sweden's three golds.

20 years later, Sweden won two medals in the same athletics arena, Armand Duplantis in the pole vault and Thobias Montler in the long jump.

In addition, one on the streets through Perseus Karlström in progress.

And now it is Kajsa Bergqvist who stands on the other side and sums up the championship as the national team captain.

- I think the awarding of medals could definitely have been better given all the medal chances.

But we had five fourth places, we have many in the top eight (twelve) and in terms of championship points we have one of our best championships, says Bergqvist to SVT.

"Can't give a simple answer"

Sweden finished in 14th place in the medal league won by home nation Germany (16 medals).

There were several positive surprises, some expected results and but also some disappointments.

- There are as many explanations as there are assets.

We will do an evaluation and everyone wants to take the next step.

Many reach the top eight and do fantastically based on their conditions.

But it's a little short of the real top.

What can be done to come out stronger next time?

- I cannot give a simple answer to that.

The important thing is that you do some work to check what has been done correctly and what you need to screw up.
