For the first time during the JVM, there were well-filled stands when host nation Canada faced Finland in the final.

And it seems to have really affected the Canadian players.

Canada got off to a flying start and ran over Finland initially.

And when Joshua Roy poked in 1-0 on a rebound after eleven minutes of play, Canada had 7-0 in shots.

It was a wake-up call for Finland, who played significantly better after that, and at halftime the score was 10-9 to Canada.

The second period was difficult for Finland.

After only 41 seconds, 2-0 came from William Dufour, and when Finland tried to reduce, the team incurred a total of five expulsions in the period.

Which of course made the hunt more difficult.

Powerful Finnish twist

In the third period, the long-awaited reduction came from the Junior Lions.

Four minutes in, Finland created pressure, and when Aleksi Heimosalmi received the puck at the blue, took a few cuts towards the goal, and splashed the puck hard into the roof of the net and the score was broken.

And Finland was clearly better at that stage of the match.

And the team got a reward with nine minutes left.

Topi Niemelä sent a pass from the right back position, straight across the center line, and to Joakim Kemell at the left drawing circle who with a direct shot got the puck in before Dylan Garand in the box managed to get over.

Crazy extension

The period ended 2-2, and extra time was required to decide a winner.

In overtime, Finland created some high-quality scoring chances where they had a puck dance on the goal line after captain Mason McTavish knocked the puck down in the air.

And it probably stings for Finland.

For a minute later, Canada would decide in a two on one situation where Logan Stankoven assisted Kent Johnson who on his own return made it 3-2.
