A month ago, Marcus Ericsson led the championship, but after some poor performances, he has dropped to fourth place in the overall standings.

In the course of the night, the 31-year-old finished in seventh place, just over twelve seconds behind the winner Josef Newgarden, who with the victory climbed to second place in the championship, three points behind the leading stablemate Will Power from Australia.

Ericsson has 27 points up on Power with two races to go.

For a first place you get 54 points, so the Swede still has the chance to win this year's championship if he drives well and has the margins on his side.

Felix Rosenqvist finished in 16th place in the night's race, is eighth overall and is too far up to Power.
