After the Olympic final in Tokyo 2021, Maja Nilsson was forced to have knee surgery and before this summer's WC in Eugene, USA, 22-year-olds got new sensations.

Despite that, she managed 1.90 – but only in the last attempt.

To reach the final, she would have had to be faultless over the height.

At the European Championships in Munich, there was a chance for revenge, but the qualification was a disappointment for the Swede, who tore herself off at 1.87.

- I have felt great in training, but today it felt like I had heavy legs.

I don't know what's causing it, but I shouldn't jump this badly anyway, says Maja Nilsson to SVT Sport.

"Jumped higher in training the other day"

Nilsson, who jumped 1.92 this season, was noticeably disappointed during the interview.

- It's the worst I've jumped on all season.

I'll take 1.87 right away actually.

I jumped higher in practice the other day.

It's just so sad.

How does it feel?

- I just feel no.

Ugh, I don't know.

I do not know anything.

Nilsson started by clearing the entrance height of 1.78 in the first attempt, but then came the demolitions.

First there was a tear at 1.83 and then three at 1.87.

- Still a little disappointing that she doesn't jump higher than 1.83.

1.87 she must have the capacity to jump, says SVT's expert Gustav Zetterlund.

The relay team also missed the final

Next up is the Finn competition for the 22-year-old.

- It will be one last fun thing anyway, says Nilsson

Nor did the Swedish 4x100 meter relay team make it to the final.

The team, with Julia Henriksson, Daniella Busk, Filippa Sivnert and Elvira Tanderud, was fifth in their trial heat and the time 44.10 was not enough to advance.

- We had hoped for a better time, of course, but we did our best and can be satisfied with that, says Tanderud.
