Magnus Wislander's handball achievements are in a class of their own.

With 13 championship medals and 386 international matches, he belongs to one of the world's best handball players of all time.

But when it comes to goalball, Wislander can be seen as a beginner.

Nevertheless, it is now clear that he will step in as the national team captain for the Swedish national team that will play B-EC in Portugal in November.

His contract runs through the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

- I tried to make up my mind about the assignment and somehow the decision emerged and I understood that this could be really fun, says Magnus Wislander in a statement to the association.

Have played goalball - once

Wislander has played goalball once before – at a national team camp in the 90s under the leadership of national team captain Bengt Johansson.

- It was terrible, you were terrified of colliding with someone else and didn't know where the target was.

There has probably never been so much cheating ever, the glasses went up and down every two seconds because you had no idea where you were.

I am incredibly impressed by the players who perform this sport.

Sees similarities with handball

Ines Lopes, director of sports at the Swedish Parasport Association, believes that Magnus Wislander is the perfect fit for the assignment - despite his limited experience in the sport.

 - There are actually certain similarities between handball and goalball that I think Magnus will benefit from, but above all it is about developing and building a team that works together.

I'm not worried about the tactical side as it is with our assistant national team captains Stefan Gahne and Zoltan Szabo, says Lopes.
