Two years ago, Lina Hurtig left Linköping for Italian Juventus and as recently as March this year, she extended her contract until 2024.

But now SVT Sport can tell you that Hurtig is leaving the Italian league champion.

SVT was the only media present when Hurtig signed for Arsenal on Wednesday.

- It went very quickly after I found out that Arsenal wanted to buy me out.

When I heard that and how they wanted to use me and saw me as a soccer player, it felt too interesting to back down, says Lina Hurtig.

What do you know about your role?

- I know that I will play in the left forward position and that is where I enjoy the best and want to play.

Followed my gut feeling

Hurtig landed in England on Tuesday and underwent medical examinations on Wednesday morning before the contract was signed.

She says that it was a tough decision to leave Juventus.

- I have had two great years in Italy.

But in terms of football, it still felt like I wanted to go here and my gut told me so, so I have to trust it.

What was it about England that attracted you?

- I always wanted to play in England and when this came up it was absolutely fantastic.

It's a good and tough league and many good players, I just think it will increase now after this summer's EC as well.

I'm looking forward to it so much.

Eidevall: Had my eyes on her for many years

Arsenal is coached by Swedish Jonas Eidevall and the team also includes national team colleague Stina Blackstenius.

- Lina is a player I've had my eye on for many years.

I remember when she played in Umeå, it was already in 2012. That I will get to work with her for the first time now, ten years later, I am really looking forward to that, says Eidevall to SVT Sport.

Do you see her as a starter at Arsenal?

- She is absolutely a player who can start many football matches for us.

Then there is always a competitive situation at Arsenal.

The club finished second in the league and reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League that season.
