The big club Manchester United has not won the league since the 2012/13 season, then with Sir Alex Ferguson at the helm.

Since then, great coaches have been brought in and world-class players have been signed.

Yet sporting results have gone downhill, and BBC pundit Alan Shearer sees no quick fix.

- It will take time and a huge amount of money to get on the right track.

They are miles from where they want to be, he says.

The coach wants signings

After the fiasco against Brentford, United are now bottom of the league for the first time in 30 years, after two rounds.

Erik ten Hag was open after the match that new acquisitions are a must.

- We need to recruit new players and quality players.

We will try to persuade them to come here, he says.

Former great player Gary Neville, now an expert for Sky Sports, did not hold back his words.

- It was like men against nine-year-olds.

Large protests are expected

From Neville and supporters, there is no doubt who bears the brunt of the blame: the Glazer family of owners.

United supporters have been protesting against their owners for a long time and the protests are not expected to decrease after the poor transfer summer and the disastrous results.

- The only money spent on players is generated by the club, not by them.

There has been a toxic culture at this club for the last ten years.

It's a mess.

The only good thing about United is the supporters and they've had enough, says Neville.

As if that wasn't enough, superstar and last year's top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo is rumored to want to leave.

After yesterday's game, he could be seen refraining from apologizing to the supporters, as a number of other players did, and walking straight past ten Hag without shaking hands.

It risks getting even worse next Monday when arch-rival Liverpool visits Old Trafford.

Manchester United is last in the Premier League.
