Brazilian striker Willian, a former Arsenal and Chelsea player, says he has left Corinthians after receiving death threats.

The 34-year-old moved to Corinthians on a free deal last summer, but the winger's return home has been no fun.

And Willian said last night that he will return to Europe after terminating his contract with the club, as English press reports indicated that he will move to Fulham, the Premier League.

"I did not come to Brazil to receive the threat, whenever Corinthians lose or appear poorly in matches, my family is subjected to threats and insults through social media," said the player, who has played 70 international matches with the Brazil national team since his debut in 2011.

"My wife and daughters, after a while, also started attacking my father and sister," he added in a press statement.

Willian was attacked by some fans for his poor performance on the field, as Corinthians have been eliminated from two important tournaments in recent weeks, despite finishing second in the Brazilian League.

"I have agreed to terminate the player's contract," Corinthians said in a statement. "Willian alleged private and family problems and expressed his desire to leave Brazil. We regret this situation, but we respect the player's decision."
