The same rule that caused Sara Junevik to be removed from the semifinals, the one that means that only two from each nation can advance, meant that Victor Johansson snagged a final place in the 800 meters with a time of 7:52.48, a bit short of the personal best, also the Swedish record, from the Olympics in Tokyo (7:49.14).

- I hope to be able to go down quite a bit in a final swim, a bit below my Swedish record as well, says Victor Johansson.

In the last 200 metres, he managed to keep the pace, even though it got really heavy after 400 metres.

- I listened to Marre, Martina, our national team captain.

She said we should win every duel and I had the guy next to me, says Johansson.

In the 100 meter freestyle, Björn Seeliger was the only Swedish man to advance to the semi-finals.
