No one in the Swedish team can beat Baryard Johnsson when it comes to championship routine.

The WC in Herning is her 19th major championship - EC, WC or Olympics - since her Olympic debut in Atlanta in 1996.

26 years later, she is considered by many in the industry to have her best chance to take a long-awaited individual medal.

- Whether it is now possible to get a bigger chance than last year, that is the question.

It's a new championship and a new year and I absolutely have the chance to be there if everything works out, she tells TT.

Possible medalists

Henrik von Eckermann is ranked world number one, Peder Fredricson is third, Jens Fredricson showed what he is capable of with the Markan Cosmopolit in the world cup final in Leipzig where he finished third.

In Indiana, Baryard Johnsson has followed up fifth place in the Olympics with, among other things, two victories in the Global Champions Tour since then - and in the toughest international competition.

A successful week and all four Swedes have what it takes to fight for the individual medals.

TT: How do you handle it in the group?

- It is only positive considering that we are all riding in the team until the individual final.

We all have the chance.

If we have one standing there on Sunday, it's just fantastic, says Baryard Johnsson.

She likes that the team competition – where the goal is to top the WC silver from Tryon 2018 – comes before the individual competition.

- I think it is much better.

TT: Why?

- It is good that the individual goes last, that you build on the whole way and that the winner actually jumped all five rounds.

It brings out the best in the world – at least this week.

- There is an enormously good starting field this year and it is important to be as much involved in the time jumping.

Otherwise, the risk is that it will be difficult to get past those in front of you after it.

Layout as in the Olympics

The Swedish riders have settled in Silkeborg, a few miles from Herning.

Everything to get peace and quiet between training and competitions.

TT: The same arrangement in place as in the Olympics?

- Yes you could say that.

We have chosen to stay in a hotel some distance away and it is only us riders and the union captain (Henrik Ankarcrona) who live there.

We stay within the group.

Slowly but surely we are heading into the bubble.

TT: Roughly the same set-up and preparations also sportingly or have you screwed something up?

- No not really.

They have tried to prepare as well as possible and what they think is the best way.

I think everyone is quite happy with what we have done before the championship.
