Kim Min-Seok made a name for himself to the general public when he took bronze in the 1,500m at the Olympics at home in Pyeongchang 2018. He followed this up with another bronze at the same distance in Beijing four years later.

Now the 23-year-old is making headlines again - but for completely different reasons.

It was at the end of July that Kim Min-Seok got into his car where, after drinking alcohol, he crashed into a fence at the national team's training facility.

Now the star has been punished, reports the South Korean news agency Yonhap.

The Korean Skating Association suspends Kim Min-Seok for 18 months and the national team captain Kim Jin-Su was also suspended for a year for "lack of supervision".

Three teammates, Chung Jae-Won, Jeong Seon-Kyo and Chung Jae-Woong, have also been suspended for their involvement in the fateful night out.

The rides are suspended for two, six and twelve months.

Kim Min-Seok can be back on the ice in February 2024 at the earliest.
