Newcomer 1. FC Kaiserslautern remains unbeaten in the second Bundesliga.

The Red Devils defeated FC St. Pauli 2-1 (1-0) on the third match day and climbed to second place in the table with seven points.

The Kiezklub from Hamburg is in eleventh place with four points.

In front of 39,579 spectators in the Fritz Walter Stadium on Sunday, Terrence Boyd and Kenny Prince Redondo (86th) scored the goals for the Palatinate in the ninth minute.

Jakov Medic (89th) only managed to connect the guests.

St. Pauli had more of the game over long stretches, but Lautern had the better chances.

Boyd took advantage of the first, heading in for an early lead after a nice combination via Jean Zimmer and Erik Durm.

Ten minutes later it was Boyd again, whose shot from a corner was just blocked by Medic.

In the 65th minute, the striker hit the post from close range.

FCK goalkeeper Andreas Luthe thwarted a possible equalizer in the 74th minute when he brilliantly parried a shot by Igor Matanovic from close range.

In the final phase, the four-time German champion cleverly brought the narrow lead over time.

Meanwhile, Holstein Kiel clinched their first win of the season.

After two draws, the North Germans won 2-1 (1-1) at 1. FC Magdeburg on Sunday.

Marco Komenda put Kiel in the lead after 18 minutes.

Before the break, Jason Ceka (43rd) scored the deserved equalizer in front of 19,511 spectators.

Benedikt Pichler (59th) converted a penalty kick to victory.

This was preceded by a foul by Jamie Lawrence on Steven Skrzybski, for which the man from Magdeburg saw the yellow-red card.

It was the second home defeat for the hosts.

Kiel and Darmstadt win

After a balanced initial phase, Kiel managed to buy the punch from Magdeburg.

With the lead through a standard situation behind them, the guests defended offensively and closed the spaces in front of their own penalty area, so that FCM opportunities were rare.

The hosts only became dangerous ten minutes before the break.

After Ceka miserably missed a big chance in the 36th minute, he did better just before the break.

After the change, the Holsteiners were the better team again, the Magdeburgs couldn't find a solution.

After the converted penalty and outnumbered, the guests were closer to the third goal than the promoted team to the equalizer.

Kwasi Wriedt (89th) missed the big chance to make a decision after a counterattack.

Darmstadt 98 gave coach Torsten Lieberknecht three points when he returned to his old place of work.

The Hessians deservedly won 1-0 (0-0) at newly promoted Eintracht Braunschweig on Sunday and improved to ninth place in the second Bundesliga with six points.

The winning goal by Swede Oscar Vilhelmsson came in the 86th minute.

The playfully clearly better "lilies" had previously missed several big chances.

In the 49th minute Phillip Tietz failed with a penalty kick on his former teammate Jasmin Fejzic.

14 minutes later, the native of Braunschweig shot over the goal from a similarly short distance (63rd).

Magnus Warming, who had just come on as a substitute, hit the post (68th).

In front of 16,731 spectators, the harmless Braunschweiger only kept up in the first half, but welcomed their record coach Lieberknecht with applause and posters.

The 49-year-old coached Eintracht from 2008 to 2018 and led them from the third division to the Bundesliga.

"It was a phase in my life as a coach that was very emotional, very passionate and also very successful.

It means a lot to me that I was greeted so warmly here," he said on Sky.
