The 18-year-old started strongly in the race, but ended up quite quickly at the back.
The Italian struggled to cover the pension that was beginning to emerge.
"I'm trying to laugh about it now, but right after the race I felt terrible and I'm grateful to my friends and family for all the help I got so I can get through this," the athlete wrote on his Instagram shortly after the race.
Nonino finished last in the race.
