A Russian court sentenced American basketball star Brittney Griner to nine years in prison for drug offenses on Thursday.

But now comes the new message: She can be handed over to the United States through exchange.

Moscow is ready to discuss a prisoner exchange with the United States.

- We are ready to discuss the topic, but only within the framework that was approved by the presidents, Putin and Biden, Lavrov said on Friday, according to Reuters.

Her sentence could now pave the way for a US-Russian prisoner swap that would include the 31-year-old athlete and a prolific Russian arms dealer.
