On Friday, Sweden's gross squad was presented ahead of the WC qualifiers at the end of August.

Then matches against Germany and Israel await.

The presentation has been delayed compared to other countries, which has started speculation about a return for Jeffery Taylor.

But when the 16 players were announced, Taylor was not included.

- It is very sad that Jeff Taylor - once again - is not with us.

One begins to wonder when this will end.

It seems that he likes to keep the door a little open so that people get their hopes up, then he doesn't show up, says SVT's basketball expert Nick Rajacic.

Prior to the selection, there have been discussions between the team management and Taylor.

- I know there has been a dialogue with Jeff, but I have not personally been part of it.

It has been managed between the coaches, Jeff and possibly the sports manager, said the association's general secretary Fredrik Joulamo to SVT Sport before the squad had been presented.

Was suspended from the national team

Taylor has not played for Sweden since 2013 when he partly played in leagues that do not take national team breaks into account, but also because he was convicted in 2014 for assault in a close relationship and was subsequently suspended from national team games.

But the suspension has been lifted for some time now and Rajacic refers back to 2019 when Taylor participated in a training session with the Swedish national team.

- He snuck out when training was over to avoid talking to the media.

Everyone wants, tries and makes an effort to get him back to the national team, but he obviously doesn't want to.

“Incredibly disappointed”

Jeffery Taylor has long been good friends with national team coach Mikko Riipinen, which has made a return to the national team more likely.

But Nick Rajacic thinks there is something missing in Taylor for it to go away.

- It feels like he has zero competitive instinct.

Because if you look at this national team where you have one of your best friends as a coach, but still don't want to play, then something must be missing there.

He's a great basketball player, but as a competitor... I'm incredibly disappointed.

Do you think he will ever make a comeback?

- I don't know, because this is like the fifth time it has been hinted that he might come back, then he doesn't.

Sometimes it's about the Euro League window clashing with the national team, and that's understandable.

But in the summers when he doesn't have matches, he still doesn't play with Sweden.

He is very inconsistent.

He hasn't played since 2013 and it's very sad.

SVT Sport has contacted Jeffery Taylor for a comment.
