Melwin Lycke Holm took a superior SM gold, when he jumped a full twelve centimeters higher than the trio who had to share the silver (Oliver Ericsson-Sotterman, Emil Uhlin and Simon Wiklund).

Already when he managed 2.09, the gold was clear.

He then requested a bar of 2.14, which he managed in the first attempt.

"Been a difficult thing"

Then it was time for the height he had problems with for almost two years: 2.18.

- It has actually been a difficult thing.

I have been that young and promising jumper, but still haven't "pushed" for two years.

So I've had to fight mentally, says Lycke-Holm, who opted out of the junior WC in favor of the SM, to SVT Sport.

Touched the rib

After two failed attempts, there were probably some who believed that the 2.18 ghost would remain.

But even though he touched the crossbar, it remained, and the happiness when Lycke-Holm realized it would do so was unmistakable.

He cheered, clenching his fist and ripping off the tunic before raising his arm and bowing in a serger gesture.

- It is clear that it means a lot, he said afterwards, before being asked if he thinks there will be a "ketchup effect" now that the 2.18 specter has been scared away, so that 2.20 might arrive like a letter in the post :

- I really hope so.

I've improved in everything else, so it's only the high jump I was waiting for.
