Simon Jansson has returned to Kuzbass and is fulfilling his contract despite Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Jansson left Edsbyn before last season and signed a two-year contract with the Russian top club.

According to Pär Gustafsson, secretary general of the Swedish Bandy Federation, it is Jansson's decision to choose where he will play, even if the federation does not support his choice.

Earlier this year, the federation also decided that players who play in Russia cannot be selected for the national team.

"From the very beginning, SBF has been very clear about our position against the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

There is no difference in this case!

I have spoken to Simon about this, and he knows that we strongly advise against it, and that with his decision to go over, he is now not allowed to represent our men's national team.

Simon has to make his own decisions on this matter, but it's a decision I personally wish he hadn't made!

With everything that is happening, and everything we know today, it is a deeply unfortunate decision to make," he writes in a message to Söderhamns-Kuriren.

"Unbelievable"

According to the club's social media, Simon Jansson has landed in Siberia, where he was received by a large number of jubilant fans.

- It's unbelievable, he says about the reception in a local news item according to Bandypuls.

During the summer, the star has been connected with several elite series clubs, but it will not be like that.

- I hope everyone understands that if I go to Kuzbass and play bandy and do my job, it has nothing to do with what I feel about what is happening in Ukraine.

I don't stand behind anything just because I go there and play bandy, Jansson told Expressen in March.
