Chloe Kelly poked home 2-1 against Germany in extra time in Sunday's European Football Championship final and minutes later it was clear: England had won their first major championship tournament in 56 years.

Now the plan is to face the reigning world champion team USA in a training international match at Wembley on October 7.

But for the match to go ahead, England must first qualify directly for next year's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Sold 65,000 tickets

However, most things speak for advancement.

A draw or victory away to Austria on September 3 will suffice.

Should it not work out, there is another lifeline at home against Luxembourg on September 6, where a win would make England WC-ready.

If England doesn't make it, there will also be playoff games against the other group twos at the beginning of October, which would then clash with the USA match.

At least the fans seem to be convinced that the WC place will be secured sooner rather than later.

On Twitter, "Lionesses" write that 65,000 tickets have already been sold.

"A perfect match for our squad"

“It's very exciting to have the chance to play the USA at Wembley if we can secure our World Cup place first.

It would be a perfect match for our squad after so many tough matches in the EC.

It's good to enjoy the moment, but we still have work to do to take the next step," said national team captain Sarina Wiegman in a statement.

Should England fail to qualify directly, ticket-buying fans will be refunded and a new match against the USA will be scheduled at a later date
