As many as four South American countries – Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and Paraguay – have now presented an official request to Fifa to host the 2030 World Cup. This is the first time that a quartet of organizers have applied for a World Cup.

And they use a nostalgia feature.

Because it was in 1930 that the soccer World Cup was decided for the first time, in Uruguay.

- We want to bring the World Cup to its first home: South America, says South American Football Association president Alejandro Dominguez.

Get competition

Tonight, Swedish time, the candidacy will be presented at a press conference - which will be held at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo where, among other things, the semifinals and finals in 1930 were decided.

But the South American countries are not alone in wanting to host the 2030 World Cup.

Spain and Portugal have submitted their plans to FIFA, and Morocco wants to become the second African nation to host the world's biggest soccer championship.

Which country or countries will receive the 2030 World Cup will be decided at a Fifa congress in 2024.
