The Olympic gold medalist in judo, and chairman of the Mongolian Olympic Committee, Naidangiin Tüvshinbayar, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for murder, writes the site Inside the games. Tüvshinbayar is Mongolia's first Olympic gold medalist, winning the 100-kilogram judo class in Beijing in 2008 and taking silver in London four years later.
The 38-year-old was elected chairman of the country's Olympic Committee in 2020, but resigned in April last year after being jailed on suspicion of murder.
Now Tüvshinbayar has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for killing a childhood friend, also a judoka.
