At least 53 Swedes will represent the blue and yellow colors at the Olympic Stadium in Munich in the upcoming European Athletics Championships.

26 of them – including world champion Armand Duplantis, discus duo Daniel Ståhl and Simon Pettersson and Khaddi Sagnia – were pre-nominated for the championship.

And now 27 more have received the go-ahead from national team captain Kajsa Bergqvist.

- The idea is to give more people the chance to compete at the highest level.

All in all, the squad contains many active players with a chance at the top eight and some will of course fight for the medals, says federation captain Kajsa Bergqvist to the Swedish Athletics Federation's website.

Start in two weeks

At the last outdoor EC 2018 – the championship was canceled in 2020 due to the corona pandemic – Duplantis won gold in the pole vault, Daniel Ståhl and Andreas Kramer won silver in the discus and 800 meters respectively, and Meraf Bahta took bronze in the 10,000 meters.

The Athletics EC in Munich runs between 15 and 21 August, and SVT broadcasts the championship.
