Liverpool defeated Manchester City to win the FA Community Shield.

Liverpool beat Manchester City 3-1 at the 2022 FA Community Shield at King Power Stadium in Leicester, England.

The Community Shield is a one-on-one match between the Premier League (EPL) winners and the FA Cup winners from the previous season.

Liverpool won the FA Cup last season and Manchester City won the Premier League last season.

Liverpool returned to the top of the Community Shield for the first time in 16 years since 2006, achieving their 16th career title.

The 16 wins are tied for second with Arsenal for the most Community Shield wins, and Manchester United holds the record with 21 wins.

Liverpool took the lead in the 21st minute with a goal from Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Manchester City's Julian Alvarez equalized in the 25th minute, but Muhammad Salah scored the winning goal from a penalty in the 38th minute of the second half, and Darwin Nuñez scored a key in extra time.

Uruguay's national team member Nuñez is likely to participate in the group stage match against Korea at the Qatar World Cup in November this year.
