Barcelona's president, Joan Laporta, raised the talk again about the club's relationship with Argentine star Lionel Messi, after he talked about the possibility of his return to end his professional career within the ranks of the Catalan team.

Twelve months ago, Messi, 35, left Barcelona after a long career of 21 years, and joined Paris Saint-Germain, in light of a financial crisis that Barcelona suffers from that did not enable him to keep the Argentine star in his ranks.

Messi was crowned with Barcelona with all possible titles, and he left the team as the club's historical goalscorer, as he scored 672 goals in 778 games.

And occupies the second place in the list of historical scorers for Barcelona, César Rodriguez, and has scored 232 goals for the team.

In statements he made in New York on Thursday evening, with the end of Barcelona's tour in the United States approaching, Laporta indicated the possibility of Messi returning one day to Barcelona.

Laporta said, "The era of Lionel is not over, which is what we all wish. He cut his career with the team due to economic problems. We owe him a moral in this regard, and we hope that the end of his professional career will be in the Barcelona shirt and that he will be celebrated in all stadiums."

"It's just an ambition, nothing has been talked about, and I feel like I'm co-responsible for this. I think this (the player's departure) was a temporary end, and I think we're going to turn that ambition into reality."
