VfB Stuttgart narrowly cleared the first hurdle in the DFB Cup.

Coach Pellegrino Matarazzo's team beat third-division club Dynamo Dresden 1-0 (1-0) on Friday and celebrated a successful start to the Bundesliga one week before the start of the Bundesliga.

Darko Churlinov (33') scored in front of 22,644 spectators in the Rudolf Harbig Stadium for Stuttgart, who were outnumbered in a hectic final phase after Waldemar Anton (67') received a yellow-red card.

With the victory behind them, VfB are now going into the game against RB Leipzig on August 7 (3.30 p.m. in the FAZ live ticker for the Bundesliga and on DAZN) for the Bundesliga opener.

After the failed third division start against 1860 Munich (3: 4), Dresden conceded the next bankruptcy and is still waiting for a competitive win this year.

The Stuttgarters tried to control the game from the start, but were repeatedly disturbed by the hosts.

Dynamo keeper Sven Müller safely parried a free kick from Chris Führich (14').

VfB now came more often in front of the opposing goal, but the shots remained harmless.

Dresden, on the other hand, initially only managed a little forward.

However, the hosts defended consistently at the back.

After the initial phase, Dynamo, repeatedly cheered on loudly by their own fans, became increasingly active.

The team coached by Markus Anfang was now also looking for a way forward, but there was a lack of final consistency.

In this phase, Churlinov, who only had to push in from close range, finally scored the opening goal for Stuttgart.

A little later, Tiago Tomas (38th) only hit the aluminum.

Even after the break, both teams were initially unable to use their few chances effectively, often lacking in precision and the necessary penetrating power.

A little later things got tricky for the Stuttgart team.

Dresden's Christian Joe Conteh finished on the left in the penalty area, but pulled the ball past the far corner (63').

Shortly thereafter, Anton saw yellow-red, Dresden now pushed for the equalizer.

VfB joker Enzo Millot hit the bar (90+4).

KSC remains sovereign

Meanwhile, Karlsruher SC has confidently advanced to the second round of the DFB Cup competition.

At the Mecklenburg Oberliga club TSG Neustrelitz, the bottom of the table in the second Bundesliga won 8-0 (3-0).

In front of a good 3000 spectators, the outstanding Fabian Schleusener (12th/14th/41st) as well as Jerome Gondorf (67th), Malik Batmaz (71st), Daniel Gordon (73rd) and Simone Rapp (82nd/87th) scored. the goals for the KSC.

TSG, which had previously failed at KSC in 2007 (2-0 after extra time), conceded their fourth first-round defeat in the cup.

The guests started concentrated from the beginning and came through Schleusener with the first two chances for an early 2-0 lead.

When Neustrelitz were able to make the game a little more open, the unstoppable Schleusener perfected his hat-trick just before the break.

After the change, the three-time goalscorer missed two more good chances (55th/59th).

Marcus Niemitz (60th) narrowly missed the top chance for a consolation goal for the brave Neustrelitzer.

But on the opposite side of KSC against the much too open TSG defense again clearly.

Nuremberg has great trouble

After the brilliant derby victory against SpVgg Greuther Fürth, 1. FC Nürnberg meanwhile had difficulty in their first task in the DFB Cup and brought 1. FC Kaan-Marienborn in their game of the year to the hoped-for entry into the next round.

The second division club prevailed 2-0 (1-0) against the regional league promoted team and is thus in the second round of the competition like last year.

Johannes Geis (45th minute) and Enrico Valentini (84th) scored the goals for the “Club” in front of around 6,000 spectators in the Leimbach Stadium in Siegen.

The district club from Siegen, which was only founded in 2007, had reached the first main round of the cup for the first time and now had to accept its first defeat in 2022.

The four-time cup winner started with a total of four changes.

Coach Robert Klauss also made a change in goal and gave Carl Klaus a chance to prove himself.

The guests needed some time to warm up in Siegerland and had good chances to score through Mats Moeller Daehli, Christoph Daferner and Kwadwo Duah, but it was Geis who put the visitors ahead with a converted free kick just before the break.

The regional league club resisted for a long time, but could not overcome the Nuremberg defense.

Valentini made the decision shortly before the end with a left-footed shot from the edge of the penalty area to make it 2-0.
