4-times world champion in Formula 1 decides to retire

German Sebastian Vettel, the four-times world champion Aston Martin, announced today, Thursday, that he will bring the curtain down on his career at the end of the current season of the Formula One world championship.

Aston Martin expressed confidence that Vettel, 35, would extend his contract with the team, but the German driver decided to bring the curtain down on his career in November.

Vettel revealed his decision to retire in Budapest on the sidelines of his participation in the Hungarian Grand Prix at the weekend.

"The decision to retire was difficult for me to make, I spent a lot of time thinking about it," Vettel was quoted by British news agency BA Media as saying on Thursday.

"At the end of the year, I need to take a little more time to think carefully about what I'm going to focus on next," he added.

Vettel won four consecutive world titles with Red Bull between 2010 and 2013.

Vettel's experience with Ferrari did not work, and his career with Aston Martin in the past two seasons was not successful.
