Should we put an end to night sporting events in winter to save energy?

This is the question posed by the intervention of the Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, on France Info on Tuesday.

The government intends to involve professional sport in society's efforts as part of the energy sobriety plan starting this winter.

Logically, football and rugby would be impacted.

“It is very much part of the open options.

With Christophe Béchu, we decided to take the bull by the horns on this dimension.

When we see the episodes of heat wave that we have known, [we need] a doctrine that is well harmonized on the scale of the territory in a logic of safety of the practitioners.

Minister defends motorsport

More surprisingly, Oudéa-Castera on the other hand defends motor sports, and in particular the French Grand Prix, not necessarily the most environmentally friendly event on the sports calendar.

“Motorsports are themselves at the rendezvous of the ecological transition.

When we look at what happened for example at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the approach on which they subscribe to hydrogen with their partners.

This desire to move towards these clean vehicles is at the heart of the ambition of this Federation (the FIA) and of this discipline.

It will probably take more consistency to convince football and rugby to take on them.
