China News Service Client, Beijing, July 26. At the conclusion of the 2022 Oregon World Athletics Championships, the World Athletics Federation adopted an important reform measure: in the 2024 Paris Olympics track and field events, all individuals from the 200-meter to 1,500-meter distance Track events (including hurdles), will implement the resurrection system.

According to the competition system of the Olympic Games and other world competitions in the past, players in the preliminaries can directly advance to the semi-finals through the group ranking, and the rest of the players can advance by virtue of the first few best results except the directly advanced players.

In the upcoming Paris Olympics, the resurrection will replace the traditional competition system.

After the introduction of the resurrection game, players can still advance to the semi-finals by virtue of their group rankings, and the rest of the players need to participate in the resurrection game to determine the remaining semi-final seats.

It is worth mentioning that the 100-meter event will no longer set up a resurrection because there is a preliminary round before the preliminaries.

Athletes with a distance of more than 1,500 meters have a longer recovery time after each game, so there will be no resurrection competition.

World Athletics President Sebastian Coe said: "After consulting with broadcasters and athletes, we believe that this innovation in the competition format will lead to more straightforward advancement opportunities for athletes and will ensure that athletics has a strong presence at the Olympic Games. The peak moments enjoy ample exposure. We will carefully study the schedule to ensure that each event fully enjoys the Olympic spotlight.”
