Briton Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes finished second, his compatriot and teammate George Russell finished third.
The 12th stage of the World Championship was held at the Paul Ricard circuit.
The next stage will take place in Hungary from 29 to 31 July.
Monegasque Charles Leclerc from the Ferrari team, starting from the first position and leading in the race, lost control on one of the corners on lap 18 and flew into the fenders.
Earlier it was reported that Leclerc became the winner of the qualification of the Formula 1 French Grand Prix.
