The Korea Skating Federation has entered into disciplinary proceedings against the athletes who were riding with the national speed skater Kim Min-seok, who caused a scandal in a drunk driving accident.
A federation official said today (24th), "The federation received a letter of delegation from the players yesterday, and the performance improvement committee will be held on the 27th to decide whether to hold a sports fair committee with disciplinary authority."
The Federation is expected to hold a sports fair committee and decide the level of disciplinary action after going through the investigation process.
Kim Min-seok had dinner with his speed skating teammates Jeong Jae-won, Jeong Jae-woong, and Jeong Seon-kyo the night before and had a drink near the Jincheon Athlete's Village.
Afterwards, the four entered the Jincheon Athletes' Village in Kim Min-seok's car.
An ice skating federation official said, "We are investigating who drove from the dining area to the Jincheon Athlete's Village."
Min-seok Kim, Jae-woong Jeong, and Seon-kyo Jeong, who entered the village, spent time after being contacted by Ji-yoon Park, the women's short track team, who was having a birthday party with friends at the Jincheon Village Welcome Center.
After that, Kim Min-seok took Jeong Jae-woong, Jeong Seon-kyo, and Park Ji-yoon in his vehicle and moved to the dormitory, and in the process, he collided with the boundary stone of the sidewalk block of the athletes' village.
They went into the dormitory without fixing the accident, and were caught by an athlete's village watchman who checked the CCTV.
Athletes' village officials reported the smell of alcohol to the upper level of the athletes' village and the Korea Skating Federation, and the federation ordered the speed skating team to leave the village.
However, at that time, Kim Min-seok was not investigated by the police, and his blood alcohol level was not measured.
Kim Min-seok was drunk during his national team training period and was caught driving the car, so severe punishment is inevitable.
His teammates, including Jae-won Jeong, who he was accompanied by, are also likely to be disciplined.
Kim Min-seok is a mid- to long-distance sign who won the bronze medal in the men's 1,500m at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics following the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
Jaewon Jung is a silver medalist in the men's mass start at the Beijing Olympics.
The ice skating team has been preparing for the new season by entering the athletes' village on June 22 of last month.
