Min-seok Kim (Seongnam City Hall), the men's 1,500m bronze medalist in speed skating at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, drove a car and entered the Jincheon Athletes' Village after drinking alcohol.

According to an ice skating official, on the afternoon of the 22nd, Kim Min-seok, with three of his teammates, entered the village with his fellow athletes in a private vehicle after drinking while having dinner near the village.

After Kim Min-seok entered the village, he was driving again in the village and collided with a sidewalk block boundary stone.

The Korea Skating Federation, which was informed of this fact, stopped training in the village for all speed skating team members, including four athletes.

An official from the federation said, "We plan to investigate the players after receiving their police report.

Kim Min-seok is a long-distance sign who won the bronze medal in the men's 1,500m at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics following the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

This incident is even more shocking because he usually set an example for his sincere training posture.

He also received the Best Speed Skating Athlete Award for the 2021-2022 season at a performance award ceremony held last month.

Kim Min-seok's blood alcohol level was not determined at the time of the accident, and he was not investigated by the police as the accident occurred in the village.

However, during his national team training period, he was caught drinking and driving, and severe punishment is inevitable.

Among the athletes who drank with Kim Min-seok was Jae-won Jeong (Uijeongbu City Hall), a silver medalist at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

Some point out that the issue of discipline, which was drenched in the Korean ice skating system, has erupted again.

In the meantime, the ice skating industry has been plagued by various incidents such as drunkenness and assault.

In 2019, five national speed skating athletes were caught drinking in the Taereung Athlete's Village, and male short track speed skater A was caught entering the Jincheon Athlete's Village women's dormitory and caused a stir.

The ice skating team started team training last year after not training in the Athletes' Village since 2020 due to the spread of Corona 19.
