Union captain Glenn Solberg's new assistant has signed a two-year contract.

He will be employed part-time and continue to train Sävehof, with whom he won the SM gold.

"Sweden has taken big steps tactically, new players pop up all the time and the dialogue with such talented players in the national team is something I really like and believe in.

Glenn and I have had very clear conversations about the role and the way of working, which will be a new experience for me.

Much is clear in advance and it feels absolutely right," says Apelgren in a statement on the association's website.

Solberg is also satisfied.

"It feels very good that Michael agreed to my request and that the association supported the process all the way.

Michael is a hard-working coach with extensive experience both as a coach and player.

He knows what it takes to be a winner and we agree on an open collaboration for our continued development.

Last spring, the former assistant confederation captain Martin Boquist had to leave his position and said then that it was because Solberg did not want to keep him.

Boquist is now the assistant national team captain for Norway.

Next year's Handball World Cup will be played January 11-29.

Sweden and Poland share the championship.
