Three people were killed in the last hours in Spain, including a French tourist, after they were gored while watching bull shootings in the southeastern region of Valencia, aid agencies said Wednesday.

Two of the three victims, aged 50 and 56, died after being severely injured Tuesday by bulls in the suburb of Valencia, where bull-releasing events are held annually in celebrations called "Boss El Carrer".

The third, a 60-year-old French tourist, was hospitalized with a severe injury on July 8 after being gored in a village near Alicante.

The two died, according to a spokesman for relief organizations.

Bull shooting events, a widespread tradition in Spain, especially during the summer when several regions celebrate their intercessors' feasts, often cause casualties in the country, despite the adoption of protocols that would avoid such incidents.

The most famous bull shooting takes place annually as part of the San Fermin festivities in Pamplona in the north of the country, as hundreds try to get as close as possible to six bulls during an 850-meter race through the cobblestone streets of the city.

This year, five people were gored during the celebrations that started on July 7 and ended on July 14, but their injuries were minor.
