THE ESSENTIAL
The 18th stage of the Tour de France takes the riders from Lourdes to the summit of Hautacam (143 km) this Thursday.
This is the last high mountain stage of this Tour, and therefore the last opportunity for Tadej Pogacar to overthrow the yellow jersey Jonas Vingegaard.
The two men neutralized each other on Wednesday on the way to Peyragudes, despite the big push from the UAE team.
The Slovenian is still 2'18 behind the Dane.
Behind them, Geraint Thomas is a solid 3rd at 4'56, ahead of Nairo Quintana (4th at 7'53), David Gaudu (5th at 7'57) and Romain Bardet (6th at 9'21).
The polka dot jersey is still worn by Simon Geschke, while Wout van Aert definitely secured his green jersey yesterday.

9:30 a.m.: The stakes of the race
It's now or never for Tadej Pogacar!
The Slovenian, who will not be able to take a lot of time from Jonas Vingegaard on the flat time trial like the hand of Rocamadour, must bet everything on this last high mountain stage to try to overthrow the yellow jersey.
The UAE team, although diminished, managed to wring the entire Jumbo-Visma formation on Wednesday but Vingegaard did not concede anything.
It is today, on the slopes of Aubisque, of the Col du Spandelles then when arriving at the summit of Hautacam that Pogacar will put his last forces into battle.
