"Hamburg mourns Uwe Seeler.

He was the first top scorer in the Bundesliga.

He has now passed away surrounded by his loved ones," said a statement from the municipality of Hamburg, the city where he spent his club career.

Seeler made 476 appearances in the Hamburg shirt and 72 for West Germany.

In total, there were 33 goals in the national team shirt.

Germany's ladies will hold a minute's silence for Seeler in the European Championship quarter-final against Austria, and also play in mourning bands.
