Ukrainian Yaroslav Maguchy suffered a sensational defeat at the World Championships in Athletics, which takes place in Eugene, USA.

The 20-year-old athlete could not cope with the tension and lost on attempts to the Australian Eleanor Patterson.

Moreover, she lost not only in the sector, but also in the information field, once again flaunting her political position.

At the end of the competition in the jump sector, Patterson was asked what she thought about the suspension of Russian athletes and in particular the three-time world champion Maria Lasitskene, who was unable to defend the title this year.

The Australian admitted that she does not support tough sanctions against athletes, because, in her opinion, sport should remain out of politics.

“This is a difficult question, I will not lie.

You see both sides of this story.

At the same time, you do not see it in its entirety.

It is always disappointing if a person with such great talent and awards is not present here.

But in the end, the sport became very politicized.

Obviously, the events in Ukraine are very public and well covered.

Unfortunately, other conflicts are not so covered.

Unfortunately, we as a society distance ourselves from other conflicts and do not pay attention to them.

But I would never want to take the decision to expel an entire nation lightly,” Patterson said.

The position of the newly-made world champion looks much more sensible than the statements of Maguchy, made on the eve of the competition.

In particular, she stated that she would not like to meet Russian women in the sector.

Yaroslava also admitted that she no longer considers Lasitskene her idol, since she did not actively express her support for Ukrainian athletes.

“Maria wrote a letter to the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, only three months later.

And that's all she wrote.

Very bad.

I no longer have an idol.

I know that I am an idol for many Ukrainian jumpers.

And for their sake, I want to become better, ”said the bronze medalist of the Tokyo Olympics.

She admitted that her communication with Russian athletes was interrupted after February 24.

“None of them wrote anything.

They were silent.

Many of them say that this is not their problem ... They do not understand what is happening, ”Maguchikh emphasized.

The ex-world champion in the 110-meter hurdles Sergey Shubenkov reacted to the attack of the Ukrainian woman.

“Maguchikh says: “They don’t understand anything.”

Does she understand how the world works at the age of 20?

If yes, then she is a great fellow.

Masha is very worried about the situation with the special operation.

She wrote a letter to Bach to do something.

Although many letters had been written before that, many words were said, including by me, ”Metaratings quotes Shubenkov as saying.

The price of an attempt

In the absence of the titled Russian woman, Maguchikh was considered the main favorite for the World Cup.

The Ukrainian was the owner of the best result of the season (2.03 meters), while the rivals, on the contrary, did not shine.

No one jumped above two meters this summer, and her compatriot Irina Gerashchenko got closest to this mark - 1.98.

In addition, in the five previous tournaments, Maguchy suffered only one defeat - at the Diamond League stage in Stockholm.

What is symbolic, it was Patterson who won there, who defeated the Ukrainian in Eugene.

In fact, the outcome of the fight was decided by one unsuccessful attempt by Maguchy at around 2.02 meters.

Yaroslava did not cope with the task from the first run, and her opponent confidently jumped over the bar, taking the lead.

Height 2.04 did not submit to any of the girls, although the Ukrainian in the last attempt was very close to success.

She already flew over the bar, but still unsuccessfully touched it with her foot.

Thus, for the second time in a row, Maguchikh is satisfied with the silver of the world championship.

In 2019, at the tournament in Doha, she also lost to Lasickene on attempts, but then she managed to take 2.04.

And the 26-year-old Australian literally jumped over her head at the Eugene tournament, because she had never flown even two meters in an official outdoor competition before, not to mention a higher result.
