Al Wasl Football Company announced the appointment of Portuguese coach Luis Martinez as the technical director of Al Wasl Academy during the next season.
The company stated yesterday that Al Wasl Football Company has appointed the Portuguese veteran Luis Martinez as the technical director of Al Wasl Academy.
Luis Martinez, 58, is one of the well-known coaches in Portugal at the junior level, as he began his career in the youth teams of Sporting Lisbon, which is among the most prominent in the continent of Europe, where Martinez trained Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo in the junior team, and played under his leadership many Among the international players for the Portugal national team, such as Luis Nani and Joao Moutinho.
A source in Al-Wasl Club confirmed that contracting with Portuguese Luis Martinez is a great addition to the junior sector in the "Emperor", pointing out that the club's management pays great attention to this sector, which is the main tributary of the first football team.
He told "Emirates Today" that the last season witnessed the brilliance of Al-Wasl Academy by achieving four exceptional titles by the teams of under 19, 16, 14 and 13 years old, winning the league in their age stages, to chart the youth teams for the future of Al Wasliyah football in the coming years.
Portuguese media confirmed that Martinez's contract was for one season, but did not refer to the financial compensation, while making it clear that Martinez wanted to take four coaches to work with him at the academy, noting that he would put the matter to Al-Wasl management to determine a plan of action with the club.
The Portuguese coach worked with a number of international coaches in the position of assistant coach, as his most prominent stations were with Portuguese coach Andre Villas-Boas in Tottenham from July 2012 to December 2013 in 80 games, then he moved with the same coach to the Russian team Zenit and fought with him 101 games.
