Martinez, who moved to Ajax in the summer of 2019 from Argentine club Defensa e Justicia on a four-year contract with an option to extend for an additional year, became United's third signing this summer after Dutch full-back Terrell Malacia and Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen.
Martinis will meet again with his Ajax coach, Erik ten Hag, who took over the duties of supervising United as of this season.
United is also seeking to include Dutch midfielder Frank de Jong, who is committed to staying with Barcelona, even though the latter has reached an agreement with the "Red Devils", according to reports in Spain and England.
