Hamburger SV, the favorites for promotion, started the new second division season with a flattering away win.

With two goals from Robert Glatzel (67th/76th minute), HSV won 2-0 (0-0) against newly promoted Eintracht Braunschweig on Sunday.

In front of 21,900 spectators, the Lower Saxony missed a number of great chances, especially in the first half.

HSV, on the other hand, disappointed almost all high expectations and for a long time was most noticed by the repeated firing of flares in the guest fan block.

The north derby started late because the players first had to clear the remains of the fireworks from the pitch.

Braunschweig does not reward itself

Hamburg began the season with just two newcomers in the starting XI: Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer up front and Laszlo Benes in midfield.

The advantage of this occupation: Actually, the team should be more coordinated than all other teams in the league.

The downside: Everyone there has slowly adapted to the HSV style.

And so, in the first half alone, Braunschweig missed six big chances according to almost the same pattern: winning the ball in their own half, through the ball forward, good final position in front of goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes.

Fabio Kaufmann (3rd/32nd), Jan Hendrik Marx (11th), Lion Lauberbach (14th/20th) and Philipp Strompf (45th) each had an overdue Eintracht lead on their heads and on their feet.

The Hamburgers neither prevented such situations nor did they catch up with the counterattacks.

Despite having a lot of ball possession, HSV only had a few chances to score.

However, the favorite built up increasing pressure after the next Braunschweig chances (57th/64th).

In the end he had a goalscorer and merciless efficiency ahead of Eintracht.

A penalty for Braunschweig was also taken back after video evidence (81st).

Rubdown for Karlsruhe

Meanwhile, SC Paderborn has started the new season with a brilliant home win and is the first table leader in the 2nd Bundesliga.

Thanks to an outstanding second half, the East Westphalians won 5-0 (0-0) against Karlsruher SC on Sunday and celebrated the long-awaited success in their own stadium.

After a weak first half, Florent Muslija scored the deserved success of Paderborn with a penalty kick (56th), Robert Leipertz (65th), Julian Justvan, Felix Platte (72nd) and Sirlord Conteh (75th) in front of 9399 spectators literally rolled over the declining KSC at the end.

Coach Lukas Kwasniok's team struggled at the beginning and showed a weak first half.

Karlsruhe appeared self-confident, tried to stop the Paderborn game flow and even had the two best chances through new signing Mikkel Kaufmann (4th) and Cueto (45th + 1).

However, the half-time break and the penalty kick immediately after the restart turned the course of the game upside down.

The foul on Platte and the subsequent penalty kick acted as an initial spark on the Paderborn side.

Muslija opened the scoring with his lead.

Leipertz, Justvan, Platte and Conteh shot warmly for the coming opponents against guests who were weakening in terms of strength and defensively becoming weaker.

Rostock loses

FC Hansa Rostock messed up the start of the season.

Coach Jens Härtel's team lost 0-1 (0-0) to 1. FC Heidenheim in front of more than 24,000 spectators in their home Ostseestadion.

Stefan Schimmer (50th minute) scored the only goal of the day for the clever guests.

Both teams could not even begin to keep up with the ideal conditions with a magnificent backdrop and bright summer weather for half a period.

There were hardly any orderly ball relays, the players wore themselves out in duels between the two penalty areas.

Schimmer's opening goal finally brought some life into the game.

The attacker left Hansa keeper Markus Kolke with a well-placed header in the bottom right corner with no chance of defence.

The home side tried to show a reaction.

Haertel also brought new offensive personnel.

The efforts were clearly visible, but they could hardly frighten the stable defense of the guests.
