Mattias Svanberg has spent the last four years in Bologna and has been rumored to several different clubs in Europe, including Marseille and Southampton.

But today, Saturday, it became clear that he will play in Germany next season.

The MFF-educated player is recruited by the German club Wolfsburg.

The 23-year-old completed a successful medical examination yesterday and has signed a five-year contract.

- He is a very willing runner and technically skilled midfielder.

We are overjoyed that we have managed to take a player of his caliber and potential to Wolfsburg, says Wolfsburg's sports director Marcel Schäfer on the club's website.

- In conversations with the management, I immediately felt how much they wanted me at Wolfsburg.

It was very important to me.

I have the best conditions here to develop as a player, and I think I can help the team to be successful.

I will give everything for us to win matches, so that we can perform as well as possible in the Bundesliga and also play in Europe again, says Mattias Svanberg himself about the transfer.

Tenth most expensive ever

The transfer fee for Svanberg lands at just over SEK 100 million - which is the tenth most expensive transfer for a Swedish football player of all time.

The most expensive deal is when Zlatan Ibrahimovic went from Inter to Barcelona for around SEK 475 million in 2009.

The Bundesliga club played last season in the Champions League and came last in their group with Lille, Salzburg and Sevilla.

Last season, the team came in twelfth place in the table, which does not give a European game this autumn.

Svanberg had one year left on his contract with the Italian club.
