Today, Thursday, Tunisian President Kais Saied awarded tennis champion Anas Jaber the National Medal of Merit of the first category, entitled "The Sports Sector". This came during an honoring held at the Carthage Palace, according to a statement by the Tunisian presidency.

The statement said that honoring the world champion came in appreciation of her remarkable sporting achievement and in recognition of her contribution to further raising the national flag in international sports forums.

Said - according to the statement - thanked the heroine, Jaber, for her efforts to reach this advanced rank in the global ranking, as "she was already an ambassador for Tunisia and introduced our dear country and the capabilities of its youth when they have the conditions and means that allow them to excel and shine in all fields."

And last Saturday, Jaber lost the Wimbledon final to Kazakh Elena Rybakina, and is the first Arab tennis player to play a Grand Slam final and reach second place in the world rankings.

Upon her arrival on Wednesday to Tunisia, Jaber said that "her ambition has become greater after the results she achieved in international tournaments recently."

She added, "My participation in Wimbledon was good, and I achieved good results in the Madrid Masters and Rome, but my ambition became greater."
