Manchester United agree to Barcelona's "expensive" requests to buy De Jong

Barcelona has reached an agreement with Manchester United over the transfer of Dutch player Frenkie de Jong, who should agree to the move, according to a source familiar with the Spanish club on the deal.

United agreed to pay Barcelona 75 million euros plus 10 million euros for 25-year-old de Jong, according to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk about the deal.

De Jong, whose contract with Barcelona extends until June 2026, must be approved to move to the Premier League team, as reports indicate De Jong's reluctance so far to leave the "Camp Nou".

But a Barcelona official familiar with the agreement said that the coach of "Barca", Xavi Hernandez, told De Jong that he would not be part of his team's starting lineup.

Barcelona would prefer to reach an agreement with Manchester on the De Jong deal, before leaving the team on Saturday for a pre-season tour in the United States.

De Jong has played 140 games with Barcelona in various competitions since joining the Catalan team from Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam in 2019 for 75 million euros.
