The 23-year-old Slovenian Kristian Ceh grew up on a small farm with his family.

After being persuaded by a teacher at the school, he tested on discus as a 15-year-old.

Since then, he has developed significantly and is one of the gold favorites ahead of the World Cup in Eugene.

This season he has really made an impact and defeated the world champion Daniel Ståhl several times.

- I have trained very well this winter, I have a new coach and have changed my training program.

I have changed everything compared to before, says Ceh.

"Throwing over 71 meters is big"

Ceh's first great success came in 2019 when he won the U23 European Championships in Gävle.

Since then, he has evolved for each passing year and at a competition in Birmingham in May, he threw 71.27.

A result that made him world number one for a few weeks.

- To throw over 71 meters is big, I was a little surprised.

It's a throw that is top-10 through the ages.

No one expected that.

70 meters is good and this is one meter longer.

It just happened, everything worked that day.

Now you are the favorite for the gold in the World Cup, how does it feel?

- I do not think so much about it.

I just want to go there and feel good, have no problems and train well.

If the conditions are good and everything clicks, then I know that the discus will fly far, he says.
