Austria's national women's soccer team had previously managed to win the finals of the European Championship for the first time and kept the quarter-final chance.
The Austrians scored 2-0 (1-0) against Northern Ireland in Southampton.
The decision will be made on Friday in the game against the Norwegians.
England meet Northern Ireland, who after two defeats have no chance of progressing.
