The 8th stage of the Tour de France connects this Saturday Dole to Lausanne, over 186 kilometers.
The course is hilly but without offering any real difficulty either.
“The reliefs selected for the crossing of the Jura, preceding the entry into Switzerland, are not intended to decide between the climbers”, warns the director of the Tour Christian Prudhomme.
Everything should be decided in the final raid, with a kilometer at almost 12% which will devote a puncher.
The yellow jersey is more than ever on the shoulders of Tadej Pogacar, winner yesterday at the Planche des Belles Filles.
Magnus Cort Nielsen wears the polka dot jersey, Wout van Aert the green jersey, Tom Pidcock the white jersey (in place of Pogacar).
After Denmark for the first three days, the Tour de France peloton will make a short detour to Switzerland this Saturday. From the Jura, the runners will set off in the direction of the neighboring border through rough roads. Then will come the final in the canton of Vaud. The small pass of Pétra Félix will not panic many people, on the other hand the arrival in Lausanne should do some damage. A hell of a climb awaits the runners just before the line, at the level of the Olympic stadium.
A coast dear to the boss Christian Prudhomme, who explained during the presentation of the route that he never missed an edition of the race A travers Lausanne when he was a kid, just to see Merckx, Ocana or Thévenet fight there like ragpickers . Wout van Aert could well afford a second stage victory there, or Michael Matthews will take his revenge on Longwy... On our side, we would like to see Benoît Cosnefroy or why not David Gaudu surprise the competition.
