Simona Halep knows how to win at Wimbledon.

The Romanian won the traditional grand slam tournament three years ago.

But the last two seasons have been tougher for the former world setter.

Halep, who has had some injury problems, has not played a semi-final in a grand slam tournament since the Australian Open in early 2020.

But now she's back.

Halep defeated American 20-year-old Amanda Anisimova in two straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

- I play my best tennis.

I had big problems last year and had to rebuild my self-confidence.

I just needed to believe in myself, and I do and it feels good, says Halep.

In the semifinals, Elena Rykabina is waiting.

The 23-year-old defeated Australian Ajla Tomljanovic 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Rybakina is the first from Kazakhstan to reach a semifinal in a grand slam tournament.

Rybakina was born in Russia but changed nationality to Kazakhstan in 2018, writes the news agency AFP.
