The former world setter had to work hard in the first set.

Despite an initial advantage, Djokovic could not resist when Sinner twice broke his serve and took home the set with 7-5.

In the second, everything went just right for the 20-year-old who easily went on to a 6-2 set victory.

"A better player"

- He was the better player in two sets.

I went out drinking, went to the bathroom and had a pep talk with myself in the mirror.

Sometimes, in these circumstances when not much positive is happening to you on the pitch, it is necessary to take a break and a little pep talk, says Djokovic.

And that pep talk seemed to work.

The third set offered tennis candy of a rarely seen kind.

The players took turns making art after art, to the great delight of the audience.

Once Djokovic beat the set 6-3, it was well deserved and the trend on the center court changed in favor of the Serb.

Djokovic ruled and also placed in the fourth and was able to level the match to 2-2 in sets after two serveess and 6-2.

"Internal struggle"

A fifth and decisive set was thus waiting for the world's most famous lawn.

Sinner had a clear advantage in public support.

But even if it can help, it is not public support that wins matches.

It does, however, double break.

And after just such a thing, Djokovic could go up to 5-2 in sets, and then serve the match home and take his 26th straight victory at Wimbledon.

- I have been playing professional tennis for 20 years now, but nonetheless I am going through the same inner struggle as everyone else.

The internal struggle is the biggest struggle, says Djokovic and continues:

- Maybe it was the experience, maybe it was the toilet break, I'm just happy to be on.

Djokovic also took the opportunity to pay tribute to his opponent.

- Congratulations to Jannik for a good fight today, I am sure there will be several great chances for him.

In the semifinals, either the Belgian David Goffin or the British Cameron Norrie awaits.
