THE ESSENTIAL

  • After Yves Lampaert's victory in the time trial yesterday, the riders set off today for the 2nd stage, 202 km long, between Roskilde and Nyborg.

  • This stage, rather flat on paper, could however not be reduced to a massive sprint between the best specialists, Fabio Jakobsen, Caleb Ewan or Dylan Groenewegen.

  • A lot of wind is indeed expected, and there should be many edge attempts.

It will be necessary to avoid being trapped to hope to win the stage in Nyborg.

  • The big curiosity of the day will be crossing the double bridge of the Great Belt, just before the finish.

It is the third longest suspension bridge in the world, with its 18 km.

The first three climb slightly to bring the riders to 65 meters above sea level. “The images will go down in the history of the Tour, the spectacle will be grandiose,” announced the boss of the Tour, Christian Prudhomme.

  • We will also witness the first battles for the polka dot jersey, with three 4th category climbs tightened in a few kilometers, in the hills of Vedding, in the first half of the course.

After one which allowed Yves Lampaert to take the yellow jersey and to begin his enterprise of destroying the morale of his opponents, the peloton will explore this Saturday the picturesque Danish landscapes, between fjords and hills, before "the highlight of the show" ( according to Chrisitian Prudhomme): the crossing of the double bridge of the Great Belt, the third longest suspension bridge in the world (18 km) which will take the runners to 65 meters above sea level. The 202 km of this stage are full of pitfalls.

The wind and changes in direction should have their effect for almost the entire stage, along the coast of the island of Seeland.

To win at Nyborg, you will have to overcome all the obstacles.
