The winner of the Tour de France 2022 will leave the Champs-Elysées with a yellow jersey and bouquets of flowers on July 24 in Paris.

But he will pocket a very nice check in passing.

Indeed, the winner of the Grande Boucle will receive 500,000 euros from the organizers, relays Eurosport.

A sum to which are added various bonuses that the runner will be able to glean during the race.

The bonus for stage winners

In detail, winning a stage allows you to pocket 11,000 euros while crossing a summit brings in 800 euros.

A bonus of 5,000 euros is even planned for whoever passes the famous Galibier pass in the Alps first.

The winners of the intermediate sprints receive 1,500 euros and the most combative cyclist on a stage is awarded 2,000 euros.

As our colleagues point out, it is more interesting to win a stage than to finish 8th in the general classification.

Indeed, an eighth place allows you to win "only" 8,500 euros, against 11,000 for a single stage.

Whoever takes the second step of the podium in Paris will receive a check for 200,000 euros and the third will receive 100,000 euros.

The minimum prize received by any competitor who finishes the race is 1,000 euros.

Women behind

The yellow jersey is not the only one to be synonymous with reward.

The rider dressed in green on the Champs-Elysées will earn 25,000 euros, an amount also reserved for the best climber's polka dot jersey.

The best young rider in the Tour de France, with his white jersey, will receive 20,000 euros.

The best team will pocket 50,000 euros.

In total, the prize money for the Grande Boucles is estimated at 2,282,000 euros, the same amount as in 2021. A much higher jackpot than that reserved for competitors in the women's Tour de France.

This will take place from July 24 to 31 and will only have eight stages.

The overall envelope for the competition headed by Marion Rousse amounts to 250,000, with 50,000 euros allocated to the winner.
